Super Lawyers and Rising Stars

by Peter Jetton

UPDATE:

As expected, I heard from a few more of you who we missed in the first round. I was also directed to an online list of Rising Stars and Super Lawyers, searchable by State and Law School.

Dan Payne ‘04L, who practices at Meagher & Greer in Minneapolis, was named a “Rising Star” in Insurance Coverage by Minnesota Law and Politics magazine three years running.

Edward Neufville ‘03L, who practices Immigration Law and is based in Sliver Spring, MD, was named a Maryland “Rising Star” for 2009.

Each year lawyers across the country are recognized for excellence by several professional organizations, and it’s not surprising that Washington and Lee Law School graduates are well represented on those lists. We’ve heard from several firms in recent months letting us know about these alumni accomplishments, and a compiled list is below.

Congratulations to all the W&L graduates who received Super Lawyer, Best Lawyer, or Rising Star status. We know there are more of you out there, so don’t be modest. Let us add you to this list of exceptional lawyers.

John Klinedinst (71, 78L), Greg Garbacz (93L), and Mark Goldsmith (06L) have all been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine for their work in the legal profession. John was recently featured in San Diego Super Lawyers, while Greg was named to the Southern California Super Lawyers list. In addition, Mark was named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers, a special title that profiles young “up-and-comers” in the legal profession.

Two W&L lawyers at Ober | Kaler were selected for Best Lawyers 2010, Jeff Miles (73L) for his work in Antitrust Law and John Wolf (69, 72L) for his work in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Construction Law, and International Arbitration.

Luder F. Milton (05L) was named a “Rising Star” in the Business Litigation category by Virginia Super Lawyers Magazine. Luder is an associate at the law firm of Hirschler Fleischer in Richmond, Virginia and the youngest person in his firm to receive this honor.

Crenshaw, Ware & Martin announced the inclusion of three W&L attorneys in the 2009 edition of Virginia Super Lawyers.  James L. Chapman, IV (82L) was recognized in the field of Transportation and Maritime and Donald C. Schultz (89L) in Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights. In addition, W. Ryan Snow (01L), from Crenshaw’s Business Litigation practice, was selected as a “Rising Star.”

M. Bryan Slaughter (97L) was named to Virginia Best Lawyers 2010, an honor he first received in 2007.  Bryan concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of unsafe products. He is dedicated to child safety and injury prevention and writes a regular blog on child safety at www.childsafetyblog.org.

Also named to Best Lawyers 2010 was Hiram Ely III (76L), who practices Commercial Litigation in the Louisville, KY office of Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald.

Turner (73L), both of Nixon Peabody, were recognized by Chambers and Partners Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as leaders in their field.  Andrew is in the Labor and Employment practice in Rhode Island and Scott is in the Environment practice in New York.

Brian S. Clarke (99L) was named to Business North Carolina Magazine’s 2009 “Legal Elite” in Employment Law. Brian is based in Charlotte, NC where he works for the Littler law firm.
